Bad news for Akron’s offense. George Thomas of The Akron Beacon Journal reported that wide receiver Jonah Morris will undergo “season-ending surgery for an undisclosed injury.”
Morris was a promising returning receiver for the Zips. Morris (6-4, 205) is an Akron native (Archbishop Hoban HS) that started his college career at Indiana but transferred back after his freshman season.
Last year as a redshirt-sophomore, Morris started every game, caught 26 passes for 381 yards, one touchdown. Not eye-popping numbers, but he was a talented receiver that was poised to help Akron’s offense move forward during the team’s coaching change.
Also in Thomas’ report: Julian Hicks, who transferred from Central Michigan this offseason, and Timothy Scippio are “dealing with bumps and bruises.”
Tough break for a talented player, but there’s always hope that Morris can regain strength and ability and bounce back in 2020.
