Toledo up to five commitments

Toledo’s fifth commitment for this year’s cycle came in last night from an in-state athlete.

Yesterday, Jaden Rayford tweeted out that he’ll be joining Toledo. Rayford plays both running back and safety, and is listed at 6-1, 200 lbs. Rayford comes from Pemberville, Ohio and plays his prep ball at Eastwood HS.

According to his 247sports page, Rayford also held offers from rival Bowling Green, CMU, EMU and Ohio.

All five of Toledo’s commits so far are in-state guys. WR Larry Stephens is from Springfield, OG Vinny Sciury is from Massilon, DE Jaelen Crider from Stow, and DE/OLB Tariq Williamson from Akron.

Here’s a list: 247sports’ player averages, by team

This is just a quick list of MAC classes sorted by’s average player rank. The math is totally reflective of every player that’s committed to a MAC team; it only considers the players that 247sports has ranked in its system. Ohio leads the list, but only has two commits with 247sports composite scores (WR Keegan Wilburn, QB CJ Harris) and one without (OG Wyatt Walton).

  1. Ohio — 81.99 (2 commits, 1 not considered)
  2. Buffalo — 81.99 (1, 0)
  3. Toledo — 81.32 (3, 2)
  4. Miami — 81.16 (6, 2)
  5. WMU — 81.04 (3, 0)
  6. Ball State — 79.49 (2, 2)
  7. NIU — 78.58 (5, 0)

Off the board

WR Tyree Saunders from Jacksonville, Fla. has committed to South Florida today. Four days ago, the three-star receiver tweeted that Kent State was still in the running as one of his top six schools that he was looking at. The Flashes offered him on March 6, but Bowling Green also extended an offer to Saunders in late January — the only two MAC programs to offer him.

  • OT Jackson Stoefen (Eldridge, Iowa; North Scott HS) offered by EMU. He’s also been offered by Kansas, Toledo, NIU, Arkansas State, Missouri State and Northern Iowa.

  • 2021 S Justin Walters (Bolingbrook, Ill.; Bolingbrook HS) has picked up an offer from NIU. This certainly isn’t the prospect’s first FBS offer with still two high school seasons to play. Walters has also earned offers from WMU, BGSU, Army, Iowa State, Iowa and Minnesota, all dating back to January.
