The head coaches around the Mid-American Conference have spoken and it’s Northern Illinois and Ohio that are the favorites to win the West and East divisions, respectively. The coaches’ poll came out Monday morning before the start of the weekly teleconference calls.
The complete results:
|1st place votes||Points||1st place votes||Points|
|Bowling Green||29||Central Michigan||1||33|
|Kent State||16||Ball State||1||18|
Ohio’s the landslide favorite for the East with 10 first-place votes while Buffalo has two. Miami and Akron are believed to make it a fight in the East, too, but none of the MAC coaches voted for them to win the division.
The West is clogged up at the top, as one may expect. NIU leads the pack by one point ahead of Toledo and five total first-place votes. The Rockets were picked to win the West by three coaches and one vote was cast for each of Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Ball State.
Last month, the MAC announced that the media members likewise picked NIU and Ohio to play for the conference championship game.
