Smith also held offers from Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, North Dakota, Eastern Michigan and Austin Peay. Two weeks ago, Smith tweeted that he had NIU, Ball State and EKU as his top three picks.
By 247sports.com, Smith is a two-star recruit with a composite score of 0.7899, but he’s also listed as an outside linebacker. His highlight tape on Hudl shows him playing primarily at defensive end, but he’ll probably be tried out at different positions. He’s currently listed at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds and is already in great shape.
The Huskies really, really like staying in the midwest for its recruiting and Smith is more proof of that. He’s the seventh to commit to NIU for the next signing class, the first from Indiana. NIU also has five commits from the home state and one more from Michigan.
Smith is also the fourth defensive player to commit to the Huskies so far, the second along the defensive line with in-state recruit Cam Mattox being the other defensive end.
