Western Michigan brings in historic signing class

According to 247sports.com, Western Michigan’s signing class of 20 is the highest-rated signing class in Mid-American Conference history at 0.826.

The biggest signee that WMU was able to sign was four-star offensive lineman Antwan “A.J.” Reed out of Muskegon, Mich. Reed is listed at 6-foot-5, 326 pounds. On Dec. 7, Reed tweeted out his decommitment from Penn State, but kept his commitment to WMU silent until he signed his letter of intent to play for the Broncos.

The same day Reed decommitted from Penn State, tight end Anthony Torres (Mishawaka, Ind.; Penn HS) also decided to decommit from Iowa. He gave WMU a call, found out there was still a spot for him and was quick to announce his commitment with the program.

According to 247sports, there are only two two-star signees: safety Matthew Stucky (Olympia Fields, Ill.; Rich Central Campus HS) and linebacker Ryan Selig (Lake Villa, Ill.; Lakes Community HS). Everybody else in this signing class is rated a three-star prospect or higher (in Reed’s case).

One player WMU did not get was linebacker Terrance Taylor (Chicago, Ill.; Phillips Academy). Taylor is a three-star linebacker who was a heavy target by many MAC schools. In short, he eventually committed to Toledo, flipped to WMU three days ago, then flipped right back to Toledo. Since the last move, he has confirmed to MAC Prospectus and tweeted out that he will be going to Toledo.

However, defensive back Patrick Lupro (Belleville, Mich.; Belleville HS) was a flip that WMU was able to land. Lupro is one of the highest-rated players in WMU’s signing class, by 247sports, and was a one-time Bowling Green commit. Lupro decommitted from BG on Sept. 11 and committed to WMU exactly three months later.
