NIU landed arguably the most dynamic high school receiver in the state of Illinois recently.
3-star WR/TE Charles Robinson chose the Huskies over reported offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
According to 247Sports, Robinson is a top 15 recruit in the state of Illinois, as well as a top 50 tight end nationally. To land a player of this caliber could be a difference maker for the Huskies. Landing a high profile in-state player should only help on the recruiting trail as Robinson’s commitment could draw other talented in-state recruits down the line.
In a recent conversation with MAC Prospectus, Robinson discussed what he wants to accomplish during his time in DeKalb.
“I just want to do my best to be one of the best players to come through NIU, maybe break a couple records, and definitely get some rings.”
At 6-foot-3 210 pounds, it’s easy to envision a scenario where Robinson sees the field as a true freshman. It will be interesting to see if he lines up at receiver or tight end in college. For what it’s worth, Robinson tells us NIU is recruiting him as an “athlete.” If I had to guess, the coaching staff may take a wait and see approach as to which position Robinson will line up at. However no matter what position he winds up playing, NIU fans should be excited about the Robinson’s future as a Huskie.
