BGSU adds pair of 2018 linebackers

Earlier today, Bowling Green added a pair of linebackers to its 2018 signing class. The Falcons got commitments from Antwuan Johnson (Wayne HS– Dayton, Ohio) and Deandre Fitz-Henley (Clearwater Central Catholic– Clearwater, Florida).

“I love the defense they run, I run a similar defense and fit in great with their scheme,” Johnson told MAC Prospectus. “Coach (Matt) Brock sat down and talked football for a little. (Bowling Green) will be getting the best linebacker in Ohio.”

The main scouting services (247sports, Scout, Rivals) have Johnson as a consensus 3-star prospect, and one of the best linebackers in the Midwest.

“Those guys recruited me hard after I cut my list down to nine schools they battled against some big name programs like Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue and Syracuse. I could’ve pulled the trigger early … but I waited it out and felt that BGSU was the best fit for me,” Johnson added.

When Johnson narrowed down his list to nine schools, BGSU didn’t make the cut, but the program’s late push got him to commit. Other schools that offered him included: Indiana, Iowa, Arkansas, Miami (OH), Cincinnati, Central Michigan and Ohio.

On March 21, 2016 Johnson announced his commitment to Michigan as a junior. Johnson said that the communication with some of the coaching staff became an issue, which forced him into re-opening his recruitment nearly six months later.

Like Johnson, Fitz-Henley is a consensus 3-star recruit out of Florida. Also like Johnson, a lot of high-profile teams wanted him.

Fitz-Henley received offers from Toledo, Akron, Appalachian State, Colorado State, Southern Mississippi, Washington, UMass, Northern Arizona and California.

Bowling Green now has 12 commits for its 2018 signing class.
